OEM Documentation Management

OEM documentation management is the process of importing, customizing, and maintaining documentation originally produced by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), such as an aircraft manufacturer’s flight crew manuals. It covers the full lifecycle of that content within an airline’s own documentation, from initial import through every subsequent manufacturer revision.

Because airlines typically customize manufacturer documentation to reflect their own procedures and fleet configurations, OEM documentation management also involves reconciling those customizations whenever the manufacturer releases an update. This means identifying what the manufacturer changed, determining whether it affects previously customized content, and merging both sets of changes into a single current version.

Why it matters: Manually reconciling manufacturer updates against airline-specific customizations is one of the most time-consuming tasks for documentation teams. Structured OEM documentation management, particularly when built on XML aviation documentation, is what makes this process reliable at scale rather than dependent on manual comparison.
